Review: Guerlain Meteorites Compact UV Shield Pressed Powder SPF 35 No. 00 Blanc de Perle

Hi ladies,

Today I will do a review on this Guerlain Meteorites Compact UV Shield Pressed Powder, I got it recently when I was in Bangkok, in Suvarnabhumi International Airport to be exact. This is what Guerlain claim:

A must-have product, Guerlain's Météorites Compact UV Shield is the perfect ally for optimal protection against pollution, and touches of radiance and matity. Its unique formula contains the Urban Protect Complex which helps to protect the skin from pollution and urban stress, that cause dark spots and dull skin. Enriched with anti-humidity powders and boasting an ultra-fine texture, it ensures that the complexion stays matte and flawless in all circumstances. Its immaculate white shade creates a fresh, incredibly translucent complexion.

  •             An anti-UV & anti-pollution pressed powder
  •         With an anti-humidity, long-wearing formula
  •         Contains Urban Protect Complex, a blend of UVA/UVB sun filters & detoxifying agents
  •         Helps protect the skin from pollution & urban stress
  •              Instantly corrects skin irregularities & imperfections
  •               Infused with a delicate sensuous violet scent
  •        Gives a matte, fresh, flawless & radiant finish
  •              Encased in a portable mirrored compact ideal for touch-ups

This powder caught my attention because of the packaging. I have a weakness for elegant, expensive looking packaging. This Guerlain compact powder just exudes Parisian Chic! It is a sleek silver round compact with flower carving on the lid. Too bad it turns out to be made of plastic. Light and slippery, so be careful when you hold it. The compact is protected with a velvet grey pouch, I believe to prevent scratch. I personally find the pouch very useful. But be careful when you tote this product inside your purse, the powder itself is very soft, delicate, and break easily.

The product itself is a white pressed powder. I thought it would be like MAC Blot Powder; transparent, no pigment, just absorbs oil, and gives a matte appearance. Turns out it is quite pigmented. White pigment to be exact. If you have medium to dark skin tone this product might give you a chalky unnatural appearance. If you have light skin this product will enhance your natural tone, gives you brighter, paler, angelic look.

Texture is smooth and easy to apply, a little goes a long way. I find that if I use a little on my forehead and nose, my face instantly becomes brighter. If used too much, it looks like a mask. So be gentle with the application.

It has a strong violet powdery scent, for me it is quiet strange how come a small amount of powder could smell so strong?  Thankfully the scent doesn’t linger for long.  Never been a fan of violet scented things.

Oil control ability is average, no product can control my oily face anyway. It gives me a fresh matte looking skin for one or two hours. The good thing is this powder contains SPF 35, it alwash needed to give your face another layer of protection (don’t forget to use separate sunscreen).

Overall I enjoy this powder, especially for touch up. But I won’t purchase again because I still want to try another pretty looking pressed powder. If you have any experience with this powder please let me know in the comment below.

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in 72 Rose Initial

Hi ladies, long time no post, today I will do a review on my current favorite blush, Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in 72 Rose Initial.

My experience:
First thing, I am somewhat confuse because I found some bloggers got Rose Initiale (yes, initiale, with E on it), some others got Rose Initial (Initial, without E), are they different? In it is listed as Rose Initial, in it is listed as Rose Initiale, Is there any European version and Asian version?

But anyway, let’s jump to the review. Chanel Rose Initial comes in a sleek black square compact with Chanel logo on it. To protect the case, it comes with a velvet pouch. I wonder why luxury compact always comes with velvet pouch? I like it very much.

Inside, there is a standard mirror and small brush. Personally I don’t really care with small brush. I find that my travel size MAC 129 SE brush works well with Rose Initial. The blush itself is very finely milled, using a brush that is slightly ‘rough’ like MAC 129 SE would help pick up more products.  I have tried to use a very soft brush, it doesn’t work as well, because there’s only very little pigment picked up.

Rose Initial is peachy pink color with a very fine gold shimmer in it. Such a versatile color, I can see it being paired with so many type of makeup style. I feel that this blush is great for light to medium skin tone, darker skin ladies might have a hard time to make this blush show up on their skin. Rose Initial is buildable but never makes me look like a clown. I like that Rose Initial gives a ‘glow from within’ effect, it doesn’t just sit on top of your skin like so many powder blush. It always looks natural, fresh, youthful, and innocent.

Another great thing is, this blush has a hint of rose powder smell and when I sweep it, I can detect a faint smell of it, gorgeous! Overall I really enjoy this blush and recommend it to any makeup lover. I might buy other color Joues Contastre from Chanel in the future, if you have any recommendations please let me know in the comments below.

Bangkok Beauty Haul: NARS, Chanel, Guerlain, & Jo Malone

Sawadee Kha, how are you ladies? I just got back from Bangkok and here are the things that I got while stayed there

Jo Malone  Holiday 2013 Cologne Collection

I’ve wanted to try Jo Malone cologne for years, but because they are not available in my country and the price is somewhat expensive, I always postpone getting one. Finally I got the Cologne Collection.

This is a great way to experiment with Jo Malone scents. If you don’t know which one you like then this box is great starter.  It contains five travel-sized colognes that can be worn alone or layered on the skin to create unique combinations. The collection includes: Lime Basil & Mandarin, English Pear & Freesia, Blackberry & Bay, Peony & Blush Suede and Amber & Lavender Colognes.

Price: 5 bottles (each contains 9 ml colognes) cost me Bht 4,085 (around Rp 1.552.300,-). Super expensive for total 40 ml cologne. If you know which one you like then I recommend you getting the full size bottle. That way you get more cologne.  I got mine in Siam Paragon but I recommend buying them in the departure building at Suvarnabhumi International Airport, I believe the airport price is cheaper than the city price.

NARS Laguna Bronzer

I never own a decent bronzer, so I decided to get this cult-favorite product. I use it to contour my cheekbone and nose. Let me know if you want a full review.

Price: Bht 1,400 (around Rp 532.000,-). I got mine in Siam Paragon. There is a NARS counter at departure building at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Get your NARS for cheaper price there.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Medium 2 Ginger

I’m still looking for the perfect undereye concealer, so far I like this product. Creamy but not oily, after a while it dries up without settling into fine lines or looking cakey. I might do full review in the future

Price Bht 1,140 (around Rp 433.200,-) I got mine in Emporium

Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in 72 Rose Initial

Another blush! Can’t say no to Chanel blush, I describe it as a peachy pink tone. It has a gold fine shimmer in it but don’t worry, it won’t make you shine like disco ball. Somewhat it reminds me of MAC-Dainty, but Dainty is a little bit peachy than Rose Initial. I can see Rose Initial worn by many skin tone. This is universally flaterring color.

Price Bht 1,330 (around Rp 505.400,-)

Guerlain Meteorites Compact UV Shield Pressed Powder SPF 35 No. 00 Blanc De Perle

I am a sucker for a pretty compact, this one has an exquisite design. It looks so luxurious. Be careful not to drop it though, this compact unfortunately made of a slippery light plastic material, not a heavy high quality metal case.

The powder itself is great for touch up. For ladies with light skin tone this would be great, for ladies with darker skintone then find other powder, this product is not translucent. Let me know if you want a full review.

Review: Bvlgari Jasmin Noir Eau de Parfum

Describe in three words?
Luxurious, mysterious, seductive

The bottle?
Black heavy glass, with magnetic cap. The cap design remind me of the iconic Bvlgari pendant.

What it smells like?

Top notes: Gardenia, Green Notes

Middle notes: Almond, Jasmine Sambac

Base notes: Tonka Bean, Licorice, Amber, Patchouli, Musk, Precious Wood.

Upon the first spray, I get a whiff of beautiful jasmine. But slowly it develops into something more edgy, strong, and velvety. I believe it’s the almond and woody notes. That’s why I feel that this fragrance could also be used by man.

When I use it, I feel like being transported to the noir movie, elegant black satin dress, long black gloves, and of course Bvlgari diamond cuff.

What kind of woman would wear this perfume?

I can see Rita Hayworth in Gilda (1946) wearing it, I couldn’t take my eyes from her when I watch Gilda.  Seductive, sultry, and mysterious. I could also see Marlene Dietrich wear this one.

What kind of occasion suitable for this perfume?

Important meeting when you want to show your power, candlelight dinner at expensive restaurant, lounging around in cold weather staring into the night sky.

How about the sillage and  longevity?

Sillage is medium. Longevity on skin is around 4 hours, longer on my clothes.

Rp 1.600.000,-  for 100 ml/ 3.4 fl.oz
