Review: Aesop Fabulous Face Cleanser & Fabulous Face Oil

Fabulous Face Cleanser

From Aesop website:
A mild, low-foaming gel cleanser for sensitive or normal skin. This Olive-derived formulation offers exceptional cleansing without stripping skin; ideal for those prone to dryness or sensitivity. A careful blend of botanical ingredients effectively cleanse without disturbing the skin's natural tonal balance.

How to Use
Pour half a teaspoon into clean hands. Massage over the face and neck, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Follow with your preferred Aesop toner and hydrator.

Ingredients
Water (Aqua), Olive Oil PEG 7 Esters, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Glycerin, PEG-150 Distearate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Sea Salt (Maris sal), Coco-Betaine, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Oil, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, d-Limonene, Linalool.

What to Expect
Aroma: herbaceous notes
Product texture: clear gel, mild foam
Skin feel: gently cleansed, balanced

I bought Aesop products after reading so many great reviews about their products online. It is not really popular here in Indonesia, but in Australia and USA, Aesop has a serious cult following.

Now, I only use my Erha face scrub around 2-3 times a week. I use this when I don’t want to exfoliate.  I think it is good to give your skin a little break from harsh cleanser. This product is great for normal to dry skin since it has olive oil base. But I have oily skin and this doesn’t cause any breakout on me.

The amber colored glass bottle is not really practical because I have to pour the product out on my palm. At first I pour too much, but now I get used to it, I enjoy the look of their medicinal looking bottle. I read that glass bottle is better on preserving the ingredients inside. It is recommended that we only use a half tea spoon but I use a little bit more.

Because this soap is olive oil base, Aesop Fabulous Face Cleanser doesn’t lather or foam up like regular face wash. It remains slick when I massage it on my skin. The smell is amazing, like a bitter lime or something. Herbaceous and energizing. It is perfect to use in the morning.

My skin feels refreshed and balanced after that. Not too dry, not too moist either. Pores look smaller but the effect doesn’t last too long. This face cleanser might not work for people who have very oily skin since it wouldn’t give you the extra dry and clean feeling.

Despite all that, I do really enjoy the Aesop Fabulous Facial Cleanser. It is not like any other cleanser I have ever tried. Ask for a sample and see it by yourself.

Fabulous Face Oil

A daily moisturising botanical oil for normal, dull or congested skin.
Nine carefully selected botanicals deliver exceptional hydrating and fortifying benefits to detoxify, smooth and balance normal or patchy skin, with a non-greasy finish. Suited to all seasons, cities and skin types.

How to Use
Massage three to five drops into cleansed and toned skin. Alternatively, blend with your preferred Aesop hydrating cream, serum or gel to intensify hydration.

Ingredients
Macadamia Ternifolia Seed Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Cananga Odorata Flower Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Juniperus Communis Fruit Oil, Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Jasminum Officinale (Jasmine) Oil, Linalool,Benzyl Benzoate, d-Limonene, Eugenol, Farnesol, Benzyl Salicylate, Geraniol, Benzyl Alcohol.

What to Expect
Aroma: floral, herbaceous
Product texture: dry, lightweight oil
Skin feel: moisturised, replenished, matte

I believe this is one of the best selling products from Aesop. This contains nine carefully selected botanicals like Macadamia Seed, Sweet Almond, Camellia Seed, Evening Primrose, Wheat Germ, Hazel, Jasmine, and some more.

I love my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, that’s my Holy Grail serum (you can read my review here http://vixenlady.blogspot.com/2013/02/holly-grail-product-review-kiehls.html) but I want to try face oils. It seems like everyone raving about face oils. Putting oil on oily skin (like mine) seems like a horrible idea, but so many modern face oils made without making oily skin produce more sebum. This Fabulous Face Oil is one of them.

The packaging is a dark amber-colored glass bottle, it is good to protect the active ingredients inside. The dropper is dispensing the perfect amount of product. I usually use 4 to 5 drops, warm it a little on my palm, inhale the floral herbaceous smell, and press it gently on my face and neck. If there’s any product left, I will apply it on my chest and my hand.

If you compare it to Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate, this Fabulous Face Oil is definitely heavier and richer. After applying it, my skin looks oily. But after 10-15 minutes it sinks and leaves a subtle glow. Scent wise, I enjoy my Kiehl’s more. Fabulous Face Oil is nowhere near a bad smell, but I don’t consider it as a great smell either.

After use it for about 3 weeks I didn’t notice any improvements on the imperfections of my skin. Acne scars still there, pores still there. The good thing is this oil doesn’t cause any breakout and gives me a glorious “lift from within” effect. So I guess Fabulous Face Oil main purpose is not to correct imperfections but to moisturized and plump your skin.

Overall I still prefer my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Serum but it didn’t stop me from enjoying this Aesop Fabulous Face Oil. I might buy this again in the future.

SKINCARE: ERHA CLINIC & KLINIK ESTETIKA SEMARANG PART: VI

Part I   :  http://vixenlady.blogspot.com/2013/05/skin-care-diary-erha-clinic.html

Pagi
Acne Clensing Scrub with Benzoil Peroxide (ACS BP)
Acne Moisturizer Gel 1 (AMG1)
Acne Sunscreen Gel (ASG)

Malam
Acne Clensing Scrub with Benzoil Peroxide (ACS BP)
Acne Night Cream 3 (ANC 3)

Konsultasi dokter                        : Rp 150.000,- (diskon menjadi Rp 120.000,-)
Microdermabrasi                                     : Rp 450.ooo,-
Krim setelah microdermabrasi        : free
Krim anti iritasi                                           : free
Pouch Klinik Estetika Semarang     : free

Beberapa hari setelah perawatan aku merasa kulit aku lembuuuut sekali, the smoothest I’ve ever been.

Bagaimana kelanjutan perawatan kulit aku? Tunggu di post berikutnya.

Christian Dior J’adore Eau de Parfum

At the moment I saw J’adore commercial where Marylin Monroe, Grace Kelly, and Marlene Dietrich come alive and rock the backstage with the uber-gorgeous Charlize Theron, I knew I have to own a bottle.

See the video for yourself here:

Coupled with other in-depth beautiful videos that House of Dior made about this perfume, my desire becomes stronger.

Seduce yourself and watch these:

Finally I bought it in Changi Airport

Describe in three words?
Luxurious, glamorous, and confident

The bottle?
The heavy glass bottle shaped like Greek amphora, I think it looks like the curves of a woman. The cap inspired by Masai necklace. The gold bottle feels expensive and luxurious.

What it smells like?
Top Notes: Magnolia, Melon, Peach, Pear, Bergamot, Mandarin Orange
Middle Notes: Tuberose, Plum, Violet, Orchid, Freesia, Jasmine, Lily-of-the-Valley, Rose
Base Notes: Musk, Vanilla, Cheddar, Blackberry

Whenever I read all the notes in J’adore, my mind always tell me “that’s too much everything!”
When I spray it, I smell a clean soapy white floral mix with fruity notes. The jasmine, tuberose, pear, melon, and peach are rather prominent in this fragrance. All blend beautifully.

For several days, the dry down didn’t blend well with me.  It was bitter and sour, but now it just mixes with me beautifully, light fruits with a hint of woodiness. I don’t know why that happened; maybe I was sick on those days so my body chemistry messed up or something.

J’adore Dior has grown on me. She is elegant yet casual, sensual but fresh, opulent yet approachable. I feel it could be a great substitute to jewelry. Wear this instead your gold.

What kind of woman would wear this perfume?
This woman is a posh beauty.  At first she’s cold and distant, she gives “I am rich” or “I have a wealthy husband” vibe.  She’s successful and secure. She wears classy expensive things.  But if you let yourself to know her better, she’ll open herself to you, revealing her friendly and soft side.

Charlize Theron is the perfect person to advertise this perfume.  She’s unattainable but also a sweetheart.

What kind of occasion suitable for this perfume?
I think this fragrance suitable for whenever you need to “show off” to other people, important meeting, fabulous soiree, opera night, and gala dinner.

How about the sillage and  longevity?
Sillage is medium. Longevity on my skin is rather poor, gone within an hour. I start to think that my skin doesn’t hold perfume very well, just one or two fragrance last well on me, dozens don’t. However on my clothes it stays much better, around 4-5 hours.

Price?
It cost me S$ 159 (Rp 1.287.900,-) I got mine in Changi Airport

Chanel CC Cream Complete Correction SPF 30 / PA+++ 20 Beige

I never really had a great experience with BB Cream, I have tried some brands like Etude House (too white!), The Face Shop (too thick!), and Kiehl’s (makes my face super shiny and oily!), the only decent BB Cream I’ve ever used is from Caring Colors, the white and pink tube, but my search doesn’t stop there. I’m eager to find one that’s really really good!

So, I came across the Chanel CC Cream . Supposedly CC Cream (and DD Cream!) is better and updated version of BB Cream, but I personally think that they are all offering the same benefit. Just different name.

This is the description from Chanel website:

“A completely original creation.  A fusion of skincare and makeup. The double know-how of CHANEL Research and the Makeup Studio. Backed by true expertise regarding the precise needs of Asian women in terms of flawless skin.

With its CHANEL signature, CC Cream combines 5 actions in 1 single step:

SOOTHES. Cornflower water comforts sensitive skin.
MOISTURIZES. Hyaluronic  acid helps maintain hydration level all day long by trapping and retaining moisture inside the skin.
PROTECTS. SPF 30 and PA+++ sun filters block aging-accelerating UVA-UVB rays. A mineral filter guarantees higher tolerance on the skin.
PREVENTS. An active ingredient of natural origin, Rejuvencia, provides the best shield against external aggressions.
EVENS OUT IMPERFECTIONS. Redness, dark spots and pores are visibly diminished.

Within moments, skin appears flawless and glows with a natural beauty. The complexion is visibly even-toned, fresh and radiant.

CC Cream delivers complete correction and natural-looking, long-wear makeup. An ideal cream for day-long confidence with a lightweight, non-oily, comfortable texture.”

With Flash
Let me break down my experienced using Chanel CC Cream

Pros:
  • The texture of the product is very light and watery, not heavy at all. But the pigmentation is amazing. It covers pores, a slight discoloration, mild acne scars, and redness on my face
  • After I applied it, Chanel CC Cream gives a slightly dewy and fresh finish.
  • Some co-workers commented that I looked brighter. I believe that’s because of this product.
  •  It also has SPF 30 and PA+++ sun filters, it doesn’t mean that we can skip regular sunscreen but more layer of protection is always great.
Cons:
  • The color selection is limited. They only have one color which is 20 beige. It might not suitable for darker skin tone. On my NC25-35 skin, I have to blend carefully so it doesn’t look too white.
  •  Not really suitable for oily skin. I have oily skin and after an hour using this product I have to blot with blotting paper. It doesn’t have the best oil control power.
  • It is not pretty applied on a flaky skin. When my skin flake off because of acne medication it looks really horrible.
Neutral
  • Smells rather strong. Like a rose mixed with a little fruity scent. Some might not like it.
  •  Dry quickly after you apply it, so blend as soon as possible.
Bottom line, CC Cream from Chanel is an ok product for me, not that great. It might be good for dry skin. My search for the Holy Grail BB/CC/DD Cream still continue.
